FAQ

  • How does private tuition work?
Tuition with Boost Your Learning is available across New Zealand. After your diagnostic assessment, you will be assigned the best-fit tutor for your student's needs. Lessons are typically one-on-one with a dedicated and experienced teacher. The tutor will plan exclusively for your child, building on their strengths and targeting their learning needs identified in the initial assessment. With your permission, our tutors can liaise with your child's class or subject teacher to maximize the benefit of the lessons. This ensures students have many opportunities to apply new skills. Lessons can take place before, during, or after school, depending on tutor availability.
  • How does online tuition work?
Learning online is an easy and convenient way to bring high-quality learning experiences to your home, no matter where you live. To start online learning, students need a computer and high-speed internet access. We use our fully integrated platform, Lesson Space, where we can see and hear each other. The platform includes an interactive whiteboard tool that students can write on, and we can upload videos, images, and learning slides for use before, during, and after the class. Each student has their own 'Lesson Space' which saves progress, making learning adaptive to your child's needs. Benefits of online lessons include: - Reviewing materials in advance - Taking photos and recording important parts of the lesson for later review - Using online interactive tools to make learning fun and interesting - Receiving the same high-quality learning experience as in face-to-face lessons - Screen sharing to access course materials in real-time.
  • What set up do I need for online lessons?
You can download our linked guide here with handy videos to help you set up for online lessons:
  • What subjects do you tutor?
We specialize in numeracy and literacy, and also support lessons in science. Occasionally, we assist students with literacy-based skills in other subjects such as history, technology, or drama. When you book tuition with us, our experienced tutors work exclusively with your child in mind, and we are always open to any special requirements.
  • Can you support students with specific learning difficulties?
Yes! We celebrate the uniqueness of every student and strongly believe that every student is capable of success under the right tutelage. We only employ highly experienced, nurturing teachers to work at Boost your Learning. If your child has a specific learning difficulty we can discuss this at your initial consultation. We have tutors with experience in supporting a range of learning differences such as: - Dyslexia (MSL trained tutors available) - Dyscalculia - Auditory Processing Disorder - Autism - ADHD and ADD We understand the challenges that a busy classroom can present, particularly for students with learning differences. We pride ourselves on clear, sequential instruction to allow your child to grow in confidence and academic ability.
  • How is progress measured?
Before starting tuition, we conduct an initial assessment. We then develop a learning plan aligned with the national curriculum, which is shared with you and the student. Each session focuses on a key area, and our tutors provide regular feedback. As experienced teachers, we constantly adapt our practice to ensure your child is always learning optimally. Students receive a small amount of homework, allowing you to see progress at home. At the end of each term, each student receives a formal report of their learning.
  • What are your rates?
Our rates reflect the quality of service you will receive and the experience and subject knowledge of our tutors. Lessons are invoiced on a termly basis and can be paid in a lump sum or by standing order either weekly or fortnightly. Lessons must be paid in advance. Rates: - 1 hour lesson: $130 NZD (INCL. GST) - 45 minute lesson: $100 NZD (INCL. GST) - 30 minute lesson: $80 NZD (INCL. GST) Year 13 students require specialist experts, and these sessions incur an additional $10 charge. We also encourage you to book a diagnostic assessment to determine your child's current skills and abilities, so we can create a bespoke action plan to accelerate their learning.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
A decision to begin tutoring is a valuable commitment and attending each session builds momentum in learning. However, we are aware that from time to time unavoidable circumstances can prevent your child attending a session. Therefore we ask that you inform your tutor immediately if you need to cancel. Planned absences are not charged. Simply contact manager@boostyourlearning.co.nz informing them of the planned absence prior to invoicing. You will not be charged for this lesson. All other absences are charged in full. If you have had a situation arise in your whānau and need to miss multiple sessions (ie. family emergency, major illness etc) please get in touch with Sandra (manager@boostyourlearning.co.nz). Remaining lessons will be paused and can be used as credit at a later date. See below for further info: More details around cancellation can be found in our Terms and Conditions Excessive cancellations may result in the termination of tutoring services.
